In 1976 Richard E. Sellars founded a cabinet company called Sahara Cabinets, Inc. The shop was set up in a rented building, with used equipment and a lot of innovated thinking. The first year was profitable and so began the re-investing in the company. An industrial site on Flint Drive in Fort Myers was acquired and construction of a 7,500 square foot building began. Over the years the original building has been expanded twice to the current size of 28,000 square feet, adjoining lots with two buildings were acquired, and a fourth building was built to bring our current building size to 48,600 square feet on four acres of industrial property in Fort Myers.
Over the years as the cabinet industry changed Sahara Cabinets expanded right along with it. In the mid ‘90s a new cabinet door type called 3D Laminate became very popular. In early 2006 Sahara Cabinets began fabricating solid surface counter-tops using the most recognized material brand Corian along with other numerous brands of equivalent material. In order to accomplish all this Sahara Cabinets had to invest in high tech computer controlled equipment, utilizing sophisticated, state-of-the-art equipment, software, and material handling systems, which has become our greatest strength over the years in manufacturing quality products locally at reasonable prices.
